This is a small note: the value of reading lies in re-reading. Excellent books are phenomenal because they are worth reading over and over. So, if you’re on the hunt for a book, find one you’d want to revisit.

You might ask, “Isn’t that a bit circular?” It’s not. Read a book and ask yourself—somewhere between the 30- to 50-percent mark—whether you’d want to reread the earlier parts. If the answer is “no,” drop it; you’re probably not missing out on much. Otherwise, continue reading and revisit it periodically. You’ll always discover something new, like strolling down a familiar route that, although intimate, still leaves room for exploration.

Read to re-read.
